Victorian Porches and the Balcony at Dreams of Yesteryear

They are the first to welcome you when you arrive: two beautifully detailed wood porches original to the true design of the house, and a three-season porch too. Off the second floor, above the front porch, is the "porch with a view" - the balcony.

Porches at Dreams of Yesteryear

Porches don't weather the test of time as well as the rest of the house. Instead of being integral to the house's structure, they are added on to the outside of the house, almost as an after-thought. Sometimes they are absorbed into the house, being inclosed more living space, or for an interior foyer, as was the case with this house.

Thanks to old photographs, the porches at Dreams of Yesteryear were able to be restored to their original glory.

The balcony soars above the front porch, where a flag waves in a strong breeze.

The balcony, which is above the inclosed foyer, now looks out across the restoration porch's roof, with a great view of the Stevens Point water tower.

The porch on the west side of the house greets guests from the Elk Street side with a covering of Bittersweet Vine and craft to decorate it.

The porch on the west side of the house opens into the kitchen nook.

The windows of the east porch give shelter from the weather while providing a lovely view of the gardens. It is furnished with wicker, and is a great place to enjoy a game of Mancala.

Bonnie says the east porch is her favorite room in the whole house.

1100 Brawley Street is the place to go if you want to see a house listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Here is the front door adorned for spring.
